An Award show like none before, Nordic Startup Awards is a series of events that happen throughout the region in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden to recognize and celebrate the startup eco-system based in the Nordics. All of the events will lead to a grand finale in Copenhagen in December 2012 to crown the startup kings and queens of the Nordic region.

The main purpose behind the event is to consolidate the Nordic startup scene and place Scandinavian startup ecosystem on the map as a leading center for innovation in Europe, against London and Berlin. We all know we do things here a little different. And probably a little better than others. See you at DLD Cities in London!

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

Recently we met legendary Israeli engineer, investor, mentor, entrepreneur and merry prankster Yossi Vardi at the Campus Party EU 2012 in Berlin and he let us spontaneously use his keynote to pitch the audience.

As that wasn’t awesome enough, returning back from the Campus Party we found an invite from Yossi and DLD to come to London and attend the DLD City conference. We’re incredibly humbled and grateful for the generosity we are being shown. Wow! It’s like the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you so much Yossi and DLD! See you in London on Friday!

So, we’re super excited to be in London this Thursday 20th until Sunday 23rd! If you’re at the DLD Cities even at The Crystal or perhaps have time for a coffee before or after at Google Campus and TechHub – Let’s meet up and hang out!

If you are around in London, let’s meet up and have a chat! You can reach us at +4915140133149 by mail or say hi on twitter @getGauss.

About DLD Cities:

We believe that cities are the reflection of the current state of the world; they are a seismograph of what there is yet to come, the home of innovation and avantgarde thinking, and the arena in which we can take on the challenges of rapid urbanisation. At DLDcities, we want to open up a sustainable dialogue with all stakeholders that are interwoven in this complex system – urban planners, digital schientists, architects, designers, entrepreneurs, artists, and generally the citizens.

Between the paradigms of bottom-up and top-down solutions, DLDcities aims to investigate the following components: mobility & logistics, energy, architecture, arts & culture, sustainability, citizen engagement, data and the ubiquitious relevance of digitalisation.

Yossi Vardi lets us use his keynote at Campus Party Europe to pitch his audience!

Thursday, September 13th, 2012

Gauss CEO Vidar Andersen pitching Yossi Vardi's keynote audience at Campus Party Europe in Berlin 2012

Recently we were invited to the Campus Party – the biggest electronic entertainment event with keynotes from rockstars like Paulo Coelho, Yossi Vardi, Don Tapscott and Sir Tim Berners-Lee.

It’s no secret that we at Gauss are huge fans of Yossi Vardi, so it was only natural that Gauss Co-founder and CEO Vidar Andersen was camping out on a front row seat super eager to hear his keynote.

Then about ten minutes in, something unpredictably awesome happened! On Gauss co-founder Vidar Andersen answering Yossi’s question “what’s keeping people from executing on their ideas?” from the crowd, Yossi told the keynote audience that Vidar should hold the talk instead of him and then proceeded to let him pitch Gauss to his whole keynote audience! No, we are not making this up.

Watch it as it happened:

We knew Yossi Vardi is truly awesome – still this kind of spontaneous generosity completely blew our socks off and caught us totally by surprise!

Thank you, Yossi – We are incredibly humbled and grateful! You are even cooler than we could possibly imagine! We hope we meet again sometime in the future. You rock! :)

Here’s a bonus interview with Dr. Yossi from CP Europe 2012:

FREAK COINCIDENCE BRINGS EUROPEAN STARTUP ATTENTION FROM NEXT GENERATION CYBER WARFARE THREAT

Gauss The People Magnet Denies Involvement With Gauss The Malware

COLOGNE, GERMANY — On August 9, 2012 — Gauss UG released the new version of their iPhone app. The exact same day, Kaspersky Labs issued a press release announcing  that they had found a new malicious cyber weapon in the family of Stuxnet and Flame — and they named it Gauss.

And calls and emails started pouring in at the European startup.

Gauss – The People Magnet is categorically denying any involvement with Gauss the malicious cyber weapon explicitly targeting middle eastern bank accounts.”I know a lot of potential investors are very keen to know how we are going to make money, but the rumors that we have pivoted into a “Money Magnet” malware targeting Libanese banks are greatly exaggerated,” says Gauss CEO Vidar Andersen. “We are seeing a correlation from being associated with the next generation of global cyber weapons of mass destruction with a noticeable increase in app downloads, so at the moment we’re not sure if this coincidence is a blessing or a curse.”

Gauss - The Money Magnet

Gauss is a self-financed, early stage technology company based in Cologne, Germany. Their first product is ‘Gauss – The People Magnet’, an iPhone app available on the AppStore that helps you meet interesting people and discover the hidden connections to people around you; It’s a money people magnet for your pocket!

Gauss recently released a new version of  their iPhone app:

Interviewed by Techhustlers!

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Recently Gauss co-founder Vidar Andersen sat down with TechHustlers‘ (@techhustlers) Eric Strait (@ericstrait) and had a Skype conversation over the atlantic between Cologne, DE and San Marco, TX.

From the post:

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with my new friend, Vidar Andersen, & founding genius behind the “people magnet” app Gauss! We recently had the craziest happenstance way of connecting and believe it or not, we meet each other via Glancee, one of his competitors app at SXSW! He happened to be the closest SXSW event attendee staying near my home, so I thought I would connect. Little did I know, he was actually launching their direct competitor app Gauss. Gauss is a mobile app that let’s you discover and connect with interesting people around you. They describe it as a “People Magnet for your pocket.” I would not just say this and just blow smoke up your a$%, but after Vidar demoed Gauss to me, I was blown away at it made Glancee look like an amature! []

Wow! Thank you, Eric!
